Ana Patrícia Gonçalves, researcher at CAMGSD and an Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics of Instituto Superior Técnico since May 2016, has been awarded an ERC Starting Grant of 1,180,000€ for 5 years. This is the first time the European Research Council has granted this award to a mathematician working in Portugal.
The funded research project aims at characterizing the universality of the macroscopic behavior of some physical systems from underlying microscopic stochastic dynamics, by deriving the macroscopic laws, namely, (stochastic) partial differential equations, which govern the space-time evolution of the thermodynamic quantities of those physical systems.
