Quantum information with neutral atoms trapped in optical potentials

The relative weak coupling of neutral atoms to the environment makes them interesting candidates for the implementation of concepts of quantum information. We review several techniques to trap atoms in optical potentials, as optical lattices and microtraps, and discuss various schemes to implement quantum bits and gates. We furthermore describe an implementation of discrete time quantum walks in one dimension and on a two dimensional cartesian grids in such a system.
