Quadratura da esfera: buracos negros, holografia, hidrodinâmica e turbulência

Stephen Hawking mostrou que os buracos negros afinal não são assim tão negros pois emitem radiação. Isto significa que buracos negros (pequenos) são objectos quânticos: pela primeira vez na física e na Natureza encontramos um sistema que tem de ser descrito por uma teoria que incorpore simultaneamente a gravidade de Einstein e a física quântica! Esta será uma teoria de gravidade quântica. Procurando esta teoria, nos últimos anos descobriu-se uma “dualidade holográfica”. Como a palavra sugere, esta dualidade projecta assimptoticamente num écran bidimensional quântico a informação gravitacional que vive no interior do volume tridimensional delimitado pelo écran. Não menos extraordinário, em certas condições (elevados comprimentos de onda e temperatura) a física quântica no écran holográfico tem uma descrição hidrodinâmica. Isto significa, por exemplo, que buracos negros se comportam como fluidos e bolas de sabão! Significa também que fenómenos de turbulência, como os que aparecem em furacões e vórtices, tem uma descrição dual em gravidade.

Nesta palestra faremos uma viagem na qual teremos a oportunidade de descrever pitorescamente estas ideias e observar vídeos de simulações numéricas em buracos negros que mostram as suas relações com fluidos e turbulência.
