Instability results for the wave equation in the interior of black holes

The question of strong cosmic censorship in general relativity motivates the study of the scalar wave equation in black hole interiors. I will first review the known stability and instability results for scalar waves in the interior of sub-extremal Reissner-Nordstroem black holes and then move on to discuss a recent result, obtained in collaboration with J. Luk, on instability results in the interior of sub-extremal Kerr black holes.
