About this site

This site is maintained independently by the Department of Mathematics of Instituto Superior Técnico. It supplements with local information the www.tecnico.ulisboa.pt web site. This version latest major update was made available on September 14, 2012, due to the appearance of a new IST logo and the corresponding update of the IST public institutional site. Ulterior exceptions were the presentation of news and events in the opening page which was considerably redone since December 2012, the systematic usage of HTML 5 video, and the introduction of the tecnico.ulisboa.pt domain in December 2013.

Previous versions of the site also used jquery-jeditable, modernizr, itex2MML and Hyphenator.

The code for this site is totally independent from other IST department sites offered through the Fenix system.

Old browsers

Some of the javascript libraries used on this site require recent versions of the major browsers. This is probabably noticeable on the pages involving user input through forms.

Mobile devices

If you try to access this site from a smartphone you will be redirected to  m.math.tecnico.ulisboa.pt, which is tailored for mobile devices. Not all content will be available.

Privacy, cookies and language preferences

The only usages of cookies in Mathematics Department sites which might be questioned as not being absolutely essential to the site inner workings deal with:

  • registering the user's language preference within the math.tecnico.ulisboa.pt domain to minimize the number of times the user may need to follow language specific links and
  • the default list of seminars and research courses one wishes to follow when accessing http://math.tecnico.ulisboa.pt/seminars/

You may stop this by disallowing cookies in our domain but then it would be avisable to explicitly set language preferences in your browser. Most users do not do this and end up with an implicit language preference corresponding to the interface language of the browser. Also you would end up seeing the full list of seminar series and research courses.

Anyway there are absolutely no circunstances where cookie or other technology is used for questionable privacy purposes.

Registration of originating IP address, browser, etc., is made for the usual security and statistical purposes in logs and through Google Analytics.
