CEMAT (Centre for Mathematics and its Applications) is a Scientific Research Unit of the Interdisciplinary Complex at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) financed by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) whose purpose is to engage in research in mathematics and its applications to physics, engineering and the medical sciences. The Centre carries out active research in the areas of Numerical Analysis and Applications in Continuum Mechanics, Statistics and Stochastic Processes, Mathematical Physics, Harmonic Analysis, Operator Theory and Applications (Univ. Algarve). Researchers are faculty members of Departments of Mathematics of University of Algarve University of Madeira CEMAT arose from the Centre
for Applied Mathematics-CMA, founded in 1996.
